Guess who's baaaaaaaaack?!

So I've always found myself LOVING School House Rock. I mean, for kids that despise learning....IT'S GENIUS!
I've always been partial to the episodes that focused on the proper use of English. ( Lolly lolly lolly, get your ADVERBS here!)

For tests, I was the odd one out because I preferred essay questions over multiple choice. NERD ALERT!

Anyway, I'm in the beginnings of writing a book. I know...my story isn't more important than the next person struggling with an illness. I just find it therapeutic for me to write. I'm aware that commas and semicolons are in no way, shape, or form correct. A lot needs to be added and/or changed...I'm just spitting words in the form of my typing.

Here goes...

I am an Aries, bordering on the line of being a Taurus. This translates to “I’m sassy and a little confrontational, but I am the first one to run and hide when something confronts me.” My senior year of high school was set to be the best. I had earned so many credits, that I could get to school at 8 am, then throw on my sunglasses at lunch and come home to be back asleep by 1 pm. I was set to be living the life with courses like “Student Service” and “Peer Counseling”.

On Thursday, November 13, 2005, I went into my dad’s room to say something very unimportant about a very important TV show, Cops. As I started to speak, the same syllable came out of my mouth. “The-the-the-the-the-they sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh”. The next 45 seconds were a blur of my dad screaming for my brother to call 911, me being so insanely scared that I couldn’t breathe, and my dad trying to calm me down. By the time the paramedics had arrived, about 10 minutes AFTER I had taken my makeup off(...just my luck.) my face was pale white and my heart rate was racing. “Do you know your name?” they asked. Ok, I’m 17... not suffering from Alzheimer’s. “Kirsten Nicole Trimble”. “Do you know where you are, Kirsten?” “Yes. My dad’s house.” I can’t recall what the next few minutes contained, but I’m almost positive that my seventeen year old materialistic self, who demanded $300 in make up for her birthday, was thinking, “Damn, this EMT is freaking gorgeous! Do I look cute? Of course not!!! Why did you take your makeup off?”, as if I predicted this happening. At least my hair was halfway done and I didn’t smell. My dreamy paramedic friend appeared over me and asked “How are you doing, Kirsten?” I answered “ya know, I’m doing really well. How about yourself?!”, as if we were on a date. After he had himself a chuckle, he replied, “I’m doing great. We are going to be taking you to the nearest emergency room. I promise you will be in good hands.” Sounded like a swell idea! (I said “swell” because even now, I speak more eloquently when I’m flirty or nervous.)

We arrived and I felt like a VIP! What?! Who knew that ambulances had their own entrance to the emergency room?! I wasn’t familiar as to how hospitals operated, but I was completely satisfied with the celebrity treatment that I was getting!

“Kristin Trimble?” The doctors were entering and though I didn’t happen to catch their names; they had my results! “It’s Kirsten...”, I said...as if they cared. “Well KIRSTEN, we wish we had better news......as I’m thinking to myself “NO. NO. NO. I’d rather not even know if it’s bad news!” They didn’t listen! Then in slow motion, “You have a brain tumor and it needs to come out right away.”

Me??...Kirsten Nicole Trimble? Are you sure that’s my scan, doctor? The next 30 minutes were a blur because I broke down screaming and crying at the top of my lungs while my parents stood, wide eyed and jaw dropped, staring at the MRI.

I was immediately transfered to UCLA by some of the most gorgeous EMTs. I remember thinking, “WHY did I take off my make up before I had my stutter-fest?”

Then the “God” conversation came up in my head. If God did exist, which I wasn’t completely convinced of yet, why would God do this to me? If He does exist, he must REALLY hate me. What did I do to Him? Isn’t the saying “What goes around, comes around,”? Ok, I’m not a perfect angel. I know...shocking! I’ve been drunk like 5 times, smoked once-ICK!, and yes mom, I’ve had pre-marital sex. I was no different than any of my other friends; I was actually better behaved.

AAAAAAANNNNNNDDDD! If he does exist, then I have one question for him, “WHY ME?! Why not the Timothy McVay’s of the world? Why not someone in Texas that was scheduled to get the death penalty the next day? Why was I the lucky 17 year old girl “chosen” to have a brain tumor? Not even a small tumor, a small-orange sized tumor located in my left frontal lobe? Why weren’t my “friends” coming around to see me? That’s it....there is NO GOD!

November 17,2005- The day that will forever be engraved on my theoretical headstone. Something that I will never forget is the nurse that woke me up. She acted like it was just another day in the life and I was just another patient. “HELLO!” This is the day that I had been losing sleep over (Side note- doesn’t everyone wish that hospitals had memory foam mattresses, or at least egg crates). I remember my dance instructor calling at a time I like to refer to as “zero dark thirty” and telling me that everyone was praying for me. I believed her. I was seventeen years old...and going under the knife.

Surgery was successfully performed by a brilliant surgeon who had me out and walking in 3 days recovery. I was young and otherwise healthy, so I was right on track.

About a week later, I was adjusting to life and whatever my new “normal” was. New normal consisted of me sleeping for 20 hours a day with the intermittent antibiotic/steroid/pain killer/stool softener/super duper brain healer.

So much for April Showers :)

Hello Followers!

It is April 4, 2013. Yes...exactly 1 year since my dad's death. Emotionally-I impressed myself today. Without Aunt Pam and Brandon there, I'm not sure how I would've made it through the day. I had one minor breakdown; when I left my wallet in Pam's car- NO WORRIES! Pam overnight shipped it to me so I will have it back by noon tomorrow. One thought went through my head all day...

I can only imagine what kind of hurt and pain my brother and Grandma are dealing with today. They both live far away and were unable to be here with me today. I know that they needed comfort and a hug from me....I just couldn't be there to give it to either of them.

This is how my Daddy's plot looked after Pam,B, and I were done with it:

We did GREAT if I do say so myself! My dad would have thrown a FIT about the pink....but the smell was SO good! You're welcome Dad. :-)

Another clean scan is behind me as of yesterday! YAY! It's going to be 2 years in August since surgery. Wow...time flies when you aren't puking from chemo or radiation!

On April 8th, I will be hosting a "thirty-one bags" party at Salt Creek Grille along with my dear friend Jamie. We will be out on the patio from 630-830pm. This event is not mandatory to purchase! You can order from the online catalog at www.mythirtyone.com/jpohlot. With Mother's Day around the corner, this is a must order event!

Peace, Love, and Purses!
XOXO
Kirsten

Clean scans!

YAY! Went to the doctor and my scans looked perfect!I am fairing a lot better than they had expected.
My AMAZING boyfriend and I have plans to go to the Cheesecake Factory for Valentine's Day...I can't even remember the last time I had someone to call my Valentine! He is my gift from God. All my life, I've prayed for someone like him to come along and sweep me off my feet. He surprised me with roses at work.
We were also nominated to be in the "SCV's Cutest Couple Contest". You can vote up to 20 times/per day! The address is http://signalscv.upickem.net/I know....really long.... BUT THINK ABOUT IT! Who has a cuter story than Brandon & I?!

We have had some big news in our life! Our baby, a "Young Adult Cancer Support Group" through the Michael Hoefflin foundation, is finally ready to move forward! Anyone from ages 18-29 that has battled this awful disease is welcome at the MHF office on February 28th from 7-8:30. Email me for directions at kirstentrimble@gmail.com. We know that you are out there!!! We can't say that we all know what eachother is going through, but we can guarantee that sharing is the BEST treatment!

I love you all very much!

Lost and Found!....Then Lost again...

Hello All!

I know...its been FOREVER since I have updated my blog. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! That's been my favorite saying lately.

In the last year, I have been diagnosed with brain cancer for the third time, haven't been able to finish my degree, lost my dad, and am in a Civil War with his "wife" to get his things....she threw most of his things away in order to make room for her illegitimate grandchild-but that's a whole other story.

I felt sooo lost-Then Brandon came into my life. We are the male and female versions of eachother...seriously. We have soooooooo much fun together and he reminds me EXACTLY of my dad.

This is Brandon and I with his newborn niece, Bentleigh. If there ever was a perfect baby, she's it!

My dad sent me Brandon to help get me through his passing. That doesn't take away the pain I feel when I reach up and rub my dad's thumbprint that I had engraved into a necklace.

I'm lost again because I have NO IDEA what my purpose in this life is. Is it to mentor others? Is it to work at Total Woman forever (because that would suck)? I just don't know.

I prayed about it last night....now I just have to wait for God and my Daddy to get back to me.

ANYWAYS, on a much brighter note, I have 2 fundraisers coming up for fall. One is at the Paseo Club and the other one is called a "Sip n' Shop"...promises to be a good time. :) Will post times and dates when they are finalized. Thank you so much for always following me with support, prayers and well wishes. It means more than you guys and gals could ever know.

Peace, Love, and LOTS of living to do.

Summer lovin'!

That's what it has been-a summer to love! If its not 90 degrees outside EVERYDAY...it's WARMER! Been drinking lots and lots of water!
I got a job at Total Woman gym and day spa. WOOHOO! I am a Customer Service Representative....a receptionist that gets to wear suits and heels ALL day long. :) I love my job and there are a lot of familiar faces!

B and I are better than EVER and I can't imagine my life without him.
This is Junior. He's our "Build a Bear" baby! ....Babe, we might need to get him some new clothes. We also have a "Pillow Pet"alligator named Brutus. :)

B & I went to a Kenny Chesney/ Tim McGraw concert a couple weeks ago! Sooooooo good! We were his parent's guests and it was just such a great time! We went on vacation with my mom and stepdad for a few nights. Super fun and SUPER RELAXING!!!

WE BOTH HAD CLEAN SCANS! WAHOO! It's the little things that make life worth living.

I will always love and miss my dad-it's just something unavoidable. Sometimes I still get teary eyed, but I know that that's TOTALLY normal. When someone asks about him that doesn't know of his passing, it still stings. I just know that he doesn't want me to be sad; he loved me more than anything.

That's all folks! I know.... I have such a boring life right now. :) JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT!

XOXO,
Kirsten

Back to lifffffeee, Back to Reality!

For those of you that don't follow my facebook page religiously, I have had some BIG changes happening!

I really am starting to realize how vital my mom is to my life...and what a spaz I am about her well-being. I love her with all of my heart. Even though her and my dad had a VERY nasty divorce, she has been there WHENEVER I needed her. She will cuddle in bed with me while I cry, she tells me that he's up in heaven looking down on me and that if he had any say...he wouldn't have left. She has been my rock.

The death of my dad really threw me for a loop. What kind of "God" would take away one of the most important people in my life?! That has been the topic of SEVERAL spiritual advising sessions. (Thanks Pastor Jen and P.M.) I miss him every day and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. On Mother's Day, my grandma got 3 missed calls from his cell phone... 3! It's funny...once you stop looking for signs, they pop up EVERY WHERE!

I think that my "gift" from my dad is the guardian angel that he sent me, Brandon. Emails led to the start of the last three weeks of fun and romance. Brandon and I are the male and female versions of each other! He had a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme on the right side of his brain, whereas mine was on the left. I was never given a prognosis, but Brandon gives me so much hope. We could have an hour long conversation about NOTHING. I love his family, I love how EVERY DAY he makes time for me, he has a job and we have conversations about saving money for "rainy days", whatever that looks like. Ahhh... I'm in love. :)

I applied for a job for a summer day camp. I interview for it on Thursday. Fingers crossed. AND I FINALLY GET MY CAR BACK BECAUSE I'M BEING PUT BACK ON THE INSURANCE!

Life is good.

Dad

On Tuesday night, my daddy passed away suddenly from "Natural Causes from Diabetes" in his sleep.
My whole world has stopped. When I'm on the phone with someone, they always say "HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU BE SO STRONG?!" ......because I have to be.

People say he was larger than life....I have to agree. Not him physically, but his love for his kids and family was unreal. Dad, I miss you so much. My heart aches when I think about you...it physically hurts.
I hope that you are up with the Big Guy and Uncle Larry. I love you more than you could possibly know. Any guy that comes into my life is going to have a lot to live up to....don't worry...I'll pick a good one.

Daffodil Days

If you've never seen a daffodil bloom, it's pretty great. They take on "human-like" features!
Some bloom faster than others, some are brighter than others, some are shorter, so on and so forth...

Exhibit A:

If you look really close, there is a cocoon like film that has to come off each bud before it can bloom into a beautiful flower!

The last six months, I have been a bud wanting SO BADLY to have the cocoon cut off and to just bloom into a beautiful flower! Some of these aspects are me and my self esteem issues. I don't see myself as "beautiful" or "sexy"....just another girl trying to get by in a crazy world! Those are issues that I need to work out myself. However, why can't I drive? Answer: Because my mom took me off the insurance when she heard that I was going to be battling again. It's a battle that I couldn't handle in the beginning without rides to and fro. HOWEVER, I feel better! I feel GREAT!!! I have normal sleep/wake hours and my doctor cleared me! I don't understand why my mom wants to keep me a bud, in protective coverings instead of letting me bloom!

Status of MRI (as of March 21, 2012)

CLEEEEEEEEEAN!
Doctor says that I have a few more months of treatment....one says this is my last round and the other (whom I trust with my life) says until the end of the year. They don't make me feel sick! Why not?!

The morning of March 22, I was on a plane to visit the girls that I used to au pair for. SOOOO big! We went to the zoo, bowling, arboretum, and ate probably more than any one person ever should :)

Lastly, my friend Emily and I are both survivor's and are looking for more to start a survivor's group!
If anyone knows any young adult (17-35) that has survived this awful disease, please have them contact me.

Size 6!

First.....GREAT NEWS! CLEAN SCANS! That's 3 in a row!! WOOHOO!

I feel like a MILLION bucks. Honestly, I feel like I'm healing and becoming a better person all in one swoop! I'm going to church every Sunday (when I can't go, I get SOOOO upset), spiritual advisement happens on Friday, and I go a week on and a week off between my mom and grandma's house. It works better that way.

If you don't have a strong stomach...go ahead and wait for the next update. ;)

So the results of my sigmoidoscopy (half of a colonoscopy) showed that I had 4 fissures (little tears) caused by constipation consistent with all of my medications! Instead of adding stool softeners and Miralax twice a day to the mix, I drastically changed my diet. Rather than an In-n-out cheeseburger w/ fries (both animal style) with a Coke, I am a vegetarian that doesn't drink ANYTHING except water and hold the cookies or brownies please! I didn't think that I could do no meat, no excess sugars, and no sodas....but I'm close to the three week mark (yeaaa!) and they say that it takes 21 days to form a new habit! I have lost two jean sizes! It felt so good buying a size 6 pair of shorts today!

Lastly, I've been buying LOTS of knit headbands...
That's for you, H! ;)

Peace and Love!

Giving it all up

First of all, I apologize for not writing in so long! Been pretty busy :)

I HAD CLEAN SCANS! 2nd round of clean scans and ALL the joy in the world. No one has any idea the emotions that I go through waiting the hour that it takes to get the results back...the voices in my head SCREAM at each other, "Kirsten!!! Your head was hurting and you haven't been sleeping well." Then comes in the voice that I love, "SHUT UP! You are fine...everyone gets headaches and you probably are just stressed-that's why you can't sleep! Let's not worry about ANYTHING except looking gorgeous for the hot waiter at CPK."

CLEAN SCANS....WINNINGGGGG!

So I might not show it, but since September 2011, I have been mourning the loss of my hair.

First it was this:

Then it was this:

Now it's this:

It's been a REAL struggle; guys that usually are all up on this (Hahaha I can't even type that without laughing) won't give me the time of day. "I've lost 35 lbs...No? Not good enough unless I have hair?" I guess it's the good Lord saying "take it easy, kid! You and your hormones will be around for a while!"....which is always exciting to hear. :)

Last Wednesday, after three weeks of my white counts being too low, I received my chemotherapy dose! Yay for forward progress! (Speaking of which--NOT happy about the teams going to the Superbowl!)
I was feeling GREAT! Then two days later, I was on the floor of my bathroom at 2am making dinosaur mating calls and throwing up what I swear were my lungs. I didn't sleep for 30 hours- so by the time my mom sent me to bed (approx. 6:30 pm), I was an emotional trainwreck! Nothing a twelve hour coma can't fix :)

So muy importante news....

My friend Donna Hamilton (SHOUT OUT!) was going to church, so being the polite houseguest that I am, I tagged along.

BACKGROUND:

I was baptized as a Catholic and was forced to go to church from the age of 5 until I was 12, with bible study every Wednesday night. It was very monotonous, repetitive, and booooorrrrrrriiiiinnnggg. The catholic church made me despise going to church.

By the time tumor number 2 popped up, I was CONVINCED that there was no God. If there were a "God", I must've done something SERIOUSLY wrong to piss him off. But really though, if there were a God, why do babies die? Why do children get cancer? Why did I, of all people, have cancer? I mean, honestly; I've never done drugs, I could count on my fingers the amount of times I've been drunk, and had a clean criminal record. WHY ME?!

So anyway, back to my Sunday with Donna...
There are sooooooo many different variations of Christianity. Evangelical is a term that I have heard of,  but never TRULY understood what it meant. I associated it with witchcraft or even a cult. So when Donna said that we were going to an Evangelical church, I was skeptic. Then I asked what the church was called. "The Sanctuary", Donna said in her sweet voice.

WARNING LIGHTS AND SIRENS FLASHING EVERYWHERE! DEFINITELY A CULT!

WRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!

This church was warm and so welcoming! It is a "come as you are" kind of church. Even though I still wasn't sure about the main goal of the church, I grabbed a name tag and went to find a seat. The pastor's sermon was catered to ME. It's like someone had written him a book of my life and given it to him and he was advising me what to do. It was amazing! We went to the back of the room, got a little extra prayer, and made our way out to the courtyard. Pastor Marty had on a tie with a cartoon frog with its' tongue sticking out, so naturally, he was chasing around all of the kids with it. Donna grabbed my arm and led me to the Pastor. "This is my friend, Kirsten." He smiled; he could tell that I would completely eat up every word that he said. I was absolutely mesmerized by his sermon on "giving it all up to the Lord" and leaving all my problems, worries, and anxieties at His feet. He said to me "Kirsten, I'll bet you ask yourself countless times EVERY day, WHY? Why me?! Why am I in a situation where I have NO control?" He knew my thoughts and feelings exactly! "YES!!!!" Then he said to me, "even if I knew and told you the exact reason WHY, then what...?" He was so right! What do I do once I have the scientific reason why? "Ask WHAT! So what am I going to do about it?!" Pastor Marty looked at me and smiled,"...exactly." From that moment on, I was sold.

I am currently in the process of writing a book, working on planning a talk for parents of/and kids (separately) with cancer, and want to donate time to spend with the kids that can't go home in between treatments. All of these ideas were made possible by laying a problem that I have NO control over at the feet of God and letting him carry it for me. It feels great!

Remember to laugh a little each and every day....Everything is going to be ok :)

It's been a while....

To be completely honest, it has been a non-eventful 3 1/2 week break from treatment. Usually, I would do something extravagant like buy a plane ticket to Chicago or take up tennis-I am SO relieved that there has been absolutely NOTHING to do! The first week and a half was weird as I could literally feel the poison leaving my body; my bones felt gummy like when you leave chicken bones out for too long.I've been noticing that the radiation seemed to have fried my "brain-mouth" filter. For the last 3 weeks, I've been noticing that I say WHATEVER is on my mind...to everyone-which is really embarrassing when you are talking to your grandma about the size, color, and frequency of your bowel movements. :)

Moving right along, I've had to take more medication than I initially wanted to because the neuropathy in my feet has been more painful than I could have ever imagined! I can't complain, because at least the radiation and worst of chemotherapy is finished! Wahooooooo! This past weekend, I went up to the lake house that sits on Lake Nacimiento and overlooks part of the lake. It was a really nice change of atmosphere for me! This was the first time that I had been healthy enough to travel, so that was especially cool for me.

I regret to inform you of a loss in my life this week. Ever since I lost my hair, my world just hasn't been the same...I felt like something was missing--because DUH! Then it happened-my first baby hair sprouted up and it was like I had a child! I was so happy! I showed my longest pride and joy off to everyone I met. Then one night after admiring her beauty, I took a shower, and she became a victim to the drain. RIP Godiva!

On a happier note, my blood counts are sllloooowwwwwly recovering and I have my first scans since treatment next Wednesday (nervous, yet trying to be confident). Will know the next course of action at that point! Of course, I will let you all know the details of all that comes!

Thank you all for all of your continued love and support!

Peace, Love, and as many calories as you want!

TGI the LAST DAY!!!!

Holy moly, what a ride! Need I mention a ride that I never EVER want a ticket for anytime in the near future...or ever for that matter. Tears ran down my face during my last radiation treatment; they asked why I was crying and I WANTED to say "because I never have to see you again", but I simply said "....because I did it." Radiation is BY FAR the hardest thing I've ever gone through; though breaking up with Aaron Grahmm in 5th grade was pretty rough! I have to see my friends at chemotherapy once a week, just to get my blood counts. Now I get a 4-6 week break in which I plan to eat my entire weight in Thanksgiving food! :)

I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I am pretty sure that I would not be alive if it weren't for my amazing support group-Mom, Jonathan, Dad, Grandma, my amazing boyfriend, Dawn, Brenda, Patti, Kristyn, Danielle, Lauren, Aunt Alisa and family, and EVERYONE THAT HAS DONATED to "Love for Kirsten". Your help is appreciated more than you know!

7 more treatments!

You read the title right!!! 7 weekdays left!!! I am so stinking excited...I would be more excited if I were able to keep anything at all in my stomach! Woohoo! You all missed the party at my house this weekend! It was BYOElectrolytes and you had to supply your own puke bucket. Really good time :)

Sometimes it honestly feels like my body has declared war on my soul...it's a constant struggle. Maybe that's what cancer really is...The location (brain, breast, pancreas, etc.) of the cancer declaring a sort of battle on the heart and soul. Truth is that one's heart and soul always ALWAYS win this battle...it's just a matter of when and where. Heaven is a place too, ya know!

Out frame!

I am not dying! The brilliant neurological-Oncology genius At UCLA has given me no inclination that I will be leaving this planet anytime soon! YAY! 7 more weekdays of this chemotherapy-radiation malarkey, then 4-6 weeks off for good behavior :), then the ever popular MRI!!

Thank you so much for reading!
Peace,Love, and Raffle Tickets for an iPad 2--contact me for more info :)

Thank you, Pedialyte!!!

Hi Friends!
Great News! I am FINALLY done with cranio-spinal radiation. I am beyond enthused because the x-ray beams go through my spine and hit my stomach making it IMPOSSIBLE to hold anything down. Also, it burnt my throat making it impossible to swallow anything (even my own saliva!) But that is over, done.......ON TO THE NEXT!

I shaved my head because my hair was coming out in chunks, and I figured that I'm a tough chick :-/ FALSE!!! The first few nights, I wept like a small child. But the great news is that I still have my eyebrows, eye lashes, leg hair (...yay...) I made it ALL the way through cranio-spinal radiation and even told my radiation therapist that it looked like I made it out with all my hair!!! Jinx...started falling out that night. Ughh....sometimes it feels like I just cannot win.

I have had three neupogen shots. For you cancer newbies, a neupogen shot is a shot to kick my bone marrow into high gear to start producing more white blood cells. Last week, my counts got extremely low and there was even talks of a blood transfusion. I think that scared my body....my counts the next day were pretty high.

Just over halfway through! Some mornings, I just want to skip the day all together because Nausea isn't my name and puking my brains out is NOT my game!!! Then I have mornings that I thank God that I'm alive. I need to start having more of those mornings....

Peace, Love, and Lots of Fluids!
XO

Dearest Friends...

My name is Kirsten Trimble and I am 23 years old. In my 23 years of life, I guess it is fair to say that I have had beyond my fair share of "tests". I am a believer that everything happens for a reason....whether we see it at the current time or not.

When I was 17, I was living the dream "Valencia High School" life. I had my own car, was on the dance team, got to leave at lunch to go back to sleep...the list goes on. One night while I was spending time with my dad, I started stuttering on one specific word. My brain was literally "stuck" on one thought. Once rushed to Henry Mayo, they discovered a mass in my brain. The next 8 hours were sort of a blur, but I will never forget when the doctor at Northridge Hospital looked at me and said "Honey, you have a tumor that needs to be removed as soon as possible." I was immediately transferred to UCLA Medical Center where they removed a tumor the size of a small orange from my brain. I underwent 18 months of oral chemotherapy and seemed to be in the clear.

During this time I was enrolled full-time in college classes. In October of 2008, out of nowhere, I had a grand-mal seizure and woke up in a hospital bed. This was 3 years after my previous stint with the big "C" word, but I knew it was related. Because it wasn't of such urgency, I had time to research surgeons and I chose Dr. Mitchel S. Berger (cue birds chirping) Dr. Mitchel Berger (MSB for short) was my own personal Dr. McDreamy. Of course that is NOT why I picked him! He is one of the most world renown neurosurgeons with COUNTLESS different awards. He is the Professor and Chairman of the Neurosurgery Department at UC San Francisco. We scheduled surgery with him, had that silly tumor popped out, and everything was good and fine.

I went on to attend Boise State University (Go Broncos!), but something did not feel right. I was having panic attacks left and right and could not get a grip on my life (which consisted of eating popcorn and watching the Broncos clobber another team). I decided that after one year, I needed to be closer to my parents and the people that loved me. Upon my return to LA, my brain MRI shocked everyone. There was a DEFINITE mass that, again, needed to be taken out immediately. So within 2 weeks, I was on my way, once again, to see my angel in the bay area. Again, the tumor was out with no complications....except for one. Dr. MSB told my parents that it looked as if it were a more aggressive type of tumor and that he would let us know when the pathology came back. No more than 3 days passed and we got the phone call.....Stage 4 Glioblastoma with PNET features.

Now....most brain tumors are combinations of one thing and another. Rarely do they see the combo that I have: The average age for someone with a Stage 4 Glioblastoma is a 47 year old man and the average age for someone with a PNET is a 5 year old girl-neither of which I am.
The doctors rarely see this mix of tumor, so are treating me as if I have a Stage 4 Glioblastoma and a straight PNET.

I started chemo and radiation exactly a week ago and it has been the beginning of an up hill battle!
